Broward and Miami-Dade counties must install a pre-wired electrical system
with a switch to allow the use of

an emergency generator during major disasters.

Season may see 3 to 5 strong hurricanes, forecasters say
http://www.miamiherald.com/574/story/115616.html

Last week, Florida's Department of Environmental Protection said the new
law -- which requires all stations

within a half-mile of an interstate highway or evacuation route to be
prewired so a generator can be quickly

installed -- applied to only 254 Florida stations. Not one was in South
Florida.

But on Friday, the DEP backtracked and said the statute actually applied to
1,584 stations, including 124 in

Miami-Dade, Broward and Monroe counties. An ''oversight,'' the DEP
explained.

Now, station owners are scrambling to comply...
